Day 1!

Ok, so today was the first day that we started homeschooling. After reading around a bit we decided that we needed to make sure that everything was casual and that we concentrated more on doing fun things rather than actual teaching - since the student is only 2 years old! So here was the plan for today:

Trace straight lines with a crayon.
Do two sessions of singing the alphabet song.
Read a book during the day.
Do two sessions of counting to 15.
Read a bedtime story.

So, the first bit of schooling was this morning. Ellie made breakfast into a counting game, getting Leyla to count each mouthful up to 15. Considering this was the first time she had really heard any numbers above ten, she did really well and copied them all.

Leyla decided that she wanted to do some drawing, so I printed off the tiger picture that I had saved for Wednesday and let her colour that in with her crayons. Pic:

We then decided to take the kids to an activity at a children’s centre. We rang around and the best thing on was “Chatterbox”. Basically, all the kids got to do a lot of different activities. We sang nursery rhymes, played instruments, read a book (The Very Hungry Caterpillar) and then drew pictures based on it. Both of the babies loved it and Leyla was the loudest one there! Pic:

After we were finished at the children’s centre we went into town for something to eat. While we were waiting for our food, Ellie sang the alphabet song to Leyla and got an alphabet video up on YouTube for her to watch. She didn’t really seem interested but she had just woken up. We had another go at saying 1-15, but she wasn’t really interested until we went past number 10 when she turned to Ellie as though she had spoken a completely different language!

After dinner we went sick in Wilko’s and bought tonnes of art and craft stuff. Pic:

I think Ellie will love the make-your-own bag more than Leyla!

We came home and while Ellie was making tea, me and Leyla put her new big girl bed together! Then we came downstairs and she practised drawing straight lines by tracing over lines I drew in pencil. She did really well and kept on telling me that they weren’t lines they were number 1s! Pic:

Bed time! We put Leyla into her new big girl bed with her new Peppa Pig covers. Ellie read her a bedtime story (Room on the Broom) which she loved and then she went straight to sleep.

Very successful day!

P.S. She has been going on the potty every time she needs a wee!

Leyla: 31mths, Naomie: 12mths.
